South Korea’s entertainment and music industry is rich and diversified with various genres and styles over the years. As their traditional Korean music also known as Gugak, it is confined as folk music and ritual music. The traditional instruments include the Gayageum, Geomngo and Janggu. As they showed their traditional music often in cultural events, festivals and performances, helping to promote its appreciation and understanding among the people to know about their traditional music and its culture. They even provide traditional music training in schools and institutions. They also offer various cultural programs and festivals to show their Korean culture, traditional music and enjoy and understand more of their culture and tradition. Korean traditional music is being introduced globally through their collaborations with international musicians and performances at cultural festivals and events.

In the 1980s Korean music was popular and influenced by western music, gaining more popularity of their folk and rock music. The K-pop industry began to take shape in the 1990s-2000s and they became recognized internationally with many groups like TVXQ, Super Junior and Girl’s generation. After that, their popularity gained worldwide with many of their shows, and increased day-by-day.

South Korea’s entertainment industry is thriving, with K-POP and K-DRAMA captivating audiences worldwide. The Korean entertainment industry has a rich and fascinating history, which is known as “HALLYU” or “KOREAN WAVE”. Especially in many of the countries they are famous for their k-dramas and K-pop music. In COVID19, the first K-pop music recognized and famous globally by one of the best bands is BTS – BANGTAN SONYEONDAN. It’s South Korea’s one of the K-pop bands and their popularity is seen during the COVID. Also, their South Korean dramas have gained immense popularity globally in pandemic. Korean shows are the most popular shows and they are widely watched in countries like India, Thailand, Brazil, China and many others. As their dramas were well-liked and they were extremely popular during the pandemic. Recently, they gave the hits of k-dramas which are globally popular and won many of the awards and the prizes as well. Also, they showed their Korean culture and tradition through the k-drama, which spread globally. And they gained a lot of popularity in their entertainment industry and it has boosted the Korean tourism and economy of South Korea. And people give lots of love to the most famous dramas which are named as GOBLIN and BOYS OVER FLOWERS, which are not only famous in India but in every country, and people watch and give their love a lot to these dramas.

          Korea’s entertainment and music also produced the world-wide famous songs and k dramas that are watched and praised by all over the world. The bands like BTS, BLACKPINK and EXO are popular in the entire world, one of the most famous songs GANGNAM STYLE are also produced and released by South Korean singer PSY it also won the best video on MTV Europe and also became the viral video on YouTube. The BTS itself has nominated multiple times for Grammy award. In today’s time the South Korean music industry is growing rapidly and continues to produced master class song and k dramas. South Korea also produced some world class movies like TRAIN TO BUSAN, PARASITE AND I SAW THE DEVIL and one of the most famous Korean series SQUID GAME, these are only some examples of how the South Korean entertainment are imposing their effect and impact on world entertainment industry. SQUID GAME is one of the highly popular series till date on Netflix and other platforms also.

              The most important and unique part of the Korean entertainment and music is that they have organized various events and festival activities in many of the countries to promote their Korean culture and tradition, Korean culture has become more popular in India. Especially among the youth. In Delhi offers a Korean cultural experience through festivals, restaurants and cultural centers. In India, Rang De Korea Festival: A grand celebration of Korean culture by K-pop groups like – NTX, traditional Korean martial arts and cultural exhibitions. They gained massive followings with fans attending concerts and events and participating in K-pop dance challenges.  Also, K-POP Contest India, annual event which participants compete to showcase their K-pop skills with opportunities to perform in front of their famous K-pop idols.  And now, Korean Cultural Centre India (KCCI), a hub of Korean culture offering Korean language classes, traditional Korean attire(hanbok) rentals, Korean cuisines and cultural workshops for participants. And about their Korean Cuisine, dishes like- Kimchi they offer a workshop for participants to learn how to make kimchi and other dishes, especially for Indians introducing to new flavors and cooking techniques.Many Indians are learning the Korean language driven by their interest in K-pop, k-drama and Korean culture. Korean culture and the entertainment industry have made a significant role globally, with their unique tradition and innovation. The industry continues to evolve, and it will be exciting to see how Korean culture shapes global trends and audiences.
